"Hinweis: Bei der Züchtung der Olde English Bulldogge handelt es sich um eine Kreuzung aus englischer Bulldogge, Bullmastiff, American Bulldogg und American Pitbull Terrier. Somit stellt die Olde English Bulldogge eine Kreuzung aus einer unwiderlegbar gefährlichen Hunderasse dar. Laut einem Schreiben des Ministeriums des Innern des Landes Brandenburg vom 12.04.2012 ist somit die Haltung eines Hundes der Rasse Olde English Bulldogge verboten. Die Bestimmungen des § 8 Abs. 2 der Hundehalterverordnung des Landes Brandenburg gelten entsprechend."

Tja, danke an die Züchter. Die meisten waren halt nicht die langjährigen Zuchtversuche eines Herrn Leavitt, sondern EB/AB-Mixe.

Ganz so blöd sind unserer Gesetzgeber manchmal halt nicht. Und die mit den echten OEBs werden jetzt in Sippenhaft genommen!

Irgendwie steig ich da selber noch nicht so durch..
Es gibt grade viele Gegenbewegungen, die jetzt eine Rassegutachten wollen, um zu beweisen, dass da kein Pit Bull mitgemischt hat..
Ich bin mal gespannt, David Leavitt soll davon schon Kenntnis genommen haben und wird sich wohl auch zu Wort melden- ich bin gespannt.

It has come to my attention that Leavitt Bulldogs have been placed on a Dangerous Dogs list because they have Pit Bull in their make-up. I sincerely hope and pray that you will reconsider this listing based on the following information, so that families will not have their beloved, safe dogs ripped from their homes.

In 1971 I began me project of creating a dog with the looks of the old healthy pre 1835 Bulldog. From its inception the dogs were selected for loving, affectionate temperament. I named the Breed Olde English Bulldogge (OEB). My dogs’ foundation breeds are ½ English Bulldog, 1/6 Bullmastiff, 1/6 American Bulldog and 1/6 American Pit bull Terrier. By 1976 I had created multiple pure bred lines with this same ratio of breeds. No further Pit Bull has been added since 1976. The Pit Bulls I used were selected for their non-aggressive nature as the OEB is a family companion dog. They have never been used for fighting

Unscrupulous breeders adopted my OEB name for their unrelated dogs and so in 2006 I changed the Breed name to Leavitt Bulldog, in order to differentiate my dogs from the copies.

In the 39 years my dogs have been produced, I know of NO unprovoked attacks. We have had a number of dogs certified as therapy dogs that go into senior centers and children’s’ hospital wards, spreading love.

The Leavitt Bulldog shares nothing in common with an aggressive Pit Bull. My dogs don’t look or act like a Pit Bull. They look like a healthy Bulldog and all have the undershot bite of the Bulldog, not the Pit Bulls’ overshot, scissors bite. Their head and body look nothing like a terrier.

My dogs are well known and have been featured in books for many decades, including The Dog Catalog by Don Myrus (published April 1983),
The Mini-Atlas of Dog Breeds by Andrew DePrisco (1990),
Atlas of Dog Breeds of World by Wilcox and Walkowicz, and
The New Encyclopedia of the Dog by Fogle and Morgan.

Their standard was included in The Rare Breed Handbook by Dee Gannon, which is the dog show judges’ compilation of all rare breed dog standards.

The Leavitt Bulldog is a breed that has been approved by the American Rare Breed Association, which is our country’s foremost rare breed dog registry.

Recently the Leavitt Bulldog was positively featured in the Sunday New York Times Magazine cover story on the health problems of English Bulldog. I have enclosed the article.
Please consider the facts. My dogs don’t look like a Pit Bull. They have an easy going, loving temperament. They are widely known, worldwide. Please do not break the hearts of their owners and rip these dogs from their loving homes where they are living happily with no history of aggression. This would certainly be an inhumane act in all respects.
